If you follow me on Instagram, I mentioned earlier today that I would be spilling the tea of some lessons I’ve learned since adding “MedSpa Consultant” to my list of specialized services. And while I’m (at the time of writing this) still under active contract I won’t be divulging anything too detailed simply to prevent any retaliation.
I have learned many times over in my personal and professional life not to overlook or ignore the writing on the wall. No matter how intriguing (or lucrative) an opportunity may initially seem to be; sometimes if something sounds too good to be true, it is!
A few months ago I made a connection with a fellow businesswoman and entrepreneur who had approached me about collaborating on some new business strategy, promotional events and sales training for her team – all of this was in my wheelhouse as I’d done these types of projects for a variety of fashion brands of all sizes. I was intrigued by this opportunity because it was an open door for me to emerge into a new niche and to learn about the world of medSpas.
Now I’m not here to act as if I know all there is to know about this industry which is new to me, nor am I here to slander the business men and women who work so hard and ethically to provide the best environment for their employees and experience for their clients.
BUT – in all my years of being a “skincare junkie” and I raving about facials to anyone who would listen, this is the first time I’ve felt the need to give some warning signs or red-flags about a privately owned medSpa.
Call me naive, and maybe I didn’t want to believe it, but I am just flabbergasted at some of the things that a desperate business owner would do in order to do to increase their profits. From cutting corners to product lines used, unclear policies, etc. I usually look forward to the luxury of having a facial but most recently – I have NEVER been more let down! Not only did I come back after receiving a hydrating facial and when I used my LumiSpa that night I couldn’t believe my eyes at how unclean my face was!!
And since I’m rambling, I’ll get to my point and share some helpful to-do’s before scheduling your next facial, especially if its a new or new to YOU business:
- Ask them which products they will be using during your treatment.
- Discuss treatment options and have them provide pros and cons for all.
- Be clear on YOUR goals and concerns and don’t allow yourself to be talked into the latest trend or be coerced into what they are trying to sell TO YOU.
- Get to know your aesthetician and find out how long they have been working there.
- READ REVIEWS!!!
